Geothermal Sampling and Analysis
نویسنده
چکیده
Sampling and analysis provide the data for all geochemical interpretation and thus it is imperative that these tasks be performed by trained personnel with insight into possible errors. Different types of containers (glass, or plastic, amber or transparent) and different pre-treatment (filtering, freezing, addition of chemicals) is needed for the various constituents determined. Some constituents need analysis shortly after collection either on the spot or in a near-by laboratory which may be a field laboratory. The most common analytical techniques employed for geothermal fluid samples that are likely to be available in most laboratories are titrimetry, UVVis spectrophotometry, atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS), ion chromatography (IC), electrometry and gas-solid chromatography (GSC). In recent years inductively coupled plasma has become widely used both with atomic emission spectrometry (ICP/AES) and mass spectrometry (ICP/MS) but this requires expensive equipment and these instruments tend to be run by large commercial laboratories on a commercial basis and it is quite common that samples are sent there for analysis, especially for major cations and trace elements. Stable isotopes are analysed for by mass spectrometry (MS) and radioactive isotopes by radiometry. These techniques are not available to all laboratories and are frequently carried out on a commercial basis. From the returns in the inter-laboratory comparison of analytical techniques carried out by the International Atomic Energy Agency in 2002 involving 31 laboratories working with geothermal samples it is clear that AAS is the most used technique for cation analysis but titrimetry and UV-Vis spectrophotometry for anion analysis.

Energy and Exergy Analysis of a New Power, Heating, Oxygen and Hydrogen Cogeneration Cycle Based on the Sabalan Geothermal Wells
In this paper, a new power, heating and hydrogen cogeneration cycle from Sabalan geothermal two wells is proposed and analyzed. In the proposed system, a new double flash cycle and organic Rankine cycle are used for power production. A proton exchange membrane (PEM) is also used for hydrogen production and the domestic water heater is used for heating. The impacts of some design parameters, suc...
متن کاملPrecious Metals in High Temperature Geothermal Systems
High temperature geothermal systems are the modern analogue of epithermal precious metal ore deposits. In these systems, gold and silver are transported primarily as bisulfide complexes, with the precious metals being deposited in response to boiling and mixing of the deep geothermal fluid. In order for the geothermal system to produce an economic precious metal deposit within the typical lifet...
متن کاملFluid Geochemistry at the Raft River Geothermal Field, Idaho: New Data and Hydrogeological Implications
Following a period of exploration and development in the mid-late 1970’s, there was little activity at the Raft River geothermal field for the next ~20 years. US Geothermal Inc. acquired the project in 2002, and began commercial power generation in January 2008. From mid-2004 to present, US Geothermal Inc. has collected geochemical data from geothermal and monitoring wells in the field, as well...

The possible contribution of Al, Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Mo, Pb, Sb, Sr, Ti, V and Zn from geothermal exploitation to the environmental contami nation of Mt. Amiata was evaluated by assaying the epiphytic lichen Parmelia sulcata from two sampling areas: Piancastagnaio, where there are geothermal power plants, and a remote site distant from geothermal power plants. The results showed that t...
متن کاملGeothermal Energy for Natural Gas Compressor Stations; an Environmental and Economical Assessment
Iran’s environmental condition is critical, since it is experiencing desertification, unsustainable development and overpopulation. The objective of this study is power source replacement in natural gas stations that operate with natural gas compressors, through using electrical motors, which can be fed by a 160 MW geothermal power plant, as an alternative to gas turbines. Application of such a...
